Hanga Roa is the capital of Easter Island, it is the biggest (and only) densely habited area on the island.
Arriving on Easter Island is an experience. You walk down the steps of the aircraft onto the tarmac, one of the first things you see is a sign pointing "Transit" one way and "Easter Island" the other. Next comes customs and immigration which are both pretty laid back. The whole process taking less than 10 minutes. I'd pre-booked my accommodation so as soon as I emerged from the airport building I spotted a sign with my name on it the guesthouse had come down to meet me. That was very easy!
You might think that facilities on Easter Island might be a bit basic since the island is a long way from anywhere - but you'd be wrong everything you'd need is on the island. However the single ATM machine on the island (when I was there) only accepted MasterCard.
