My trip to Egypt started from Limassol (Cyprus) with an overnight cruise to Port Said aboard the Louis Lines "Princesa Victoria", an 1950's ex-Caribbean cruise ship. I even dressed up for dinner, and took a sun set walk on the deck!
Next morning the boat arrived at Port Said at 6:30am, and were on the tour buses for the long drive to Cairo by 7:30 with the packed lunches supplied by the ship! It was nothing if not well organised.
The drive through the centre of Cairo was something else - the cacophony of car horns and sheer mass of humanity has to be seen to be believed! But the most incongruous thing was to see the Pyramids at Giza appear from behind a high rise block of flats! You assume that the pyramids are miles from anywhere in the centre of a desert - not a bit of it, Giza is in the suburbs of Cairo!
I managed to get inside on of the pyramids, after a very claustrophobic climb down a steep set of steps I emerged into a square room with nothing but tourists in it!
