Day 1 - Thr 01 Aug 96
Drove down to Ramsgate & only just caught he ferry due to problems on the M25. Crossing was very uneventful and quite smooth. Driving on the wrong side of the road isn't too bad - but it takes a bit of getting used to.
Camped overnight in a campsite with a lake just outside Brugge (Camping Loppem, Lake Bvba). As I started setting out the tent a group of people came up and said "We'd like to put your tent up for you". I was a bit taken aback, but then they explained they were from a TV game show, and one of the tasks the contestants had to perform was erecting a tent. I let them do it, and they made a right hash of it, while I was just shaking my head in disbelief - then I spotted the camera pointing at me!!
Fitted the cars "contact lenses" to ensure that the lights didn't dazzle people, then headed into Brugge. Had a very pleasant time and saw many "Flemish" buildings - even got an ice cream! Back to the campsite, and worked out that the tent was a bit too close to the local motorway!
