Day 3 - Sat 14 July 07
A smashing day, breakfast and then headed out to walk around the St. Mary's, my boat trip was cancelled due to the untimely death of one of the locals last night during a Gig race. He had a heart attack after crossing the line - only 23 years old. Shocking.
So I headed off around the island, and I had a very nice cream tea at about 11am! There really are some great views across the inlet to Tresco and the other islands. I didn't have any sun cream, and I could feel myself burning, but couldn't do anything about it.
For the first two hours I don't think I saw another walker. The coastal path crosses the end of the runway at the airport, and there's a set of 'traffic' lights to stop the pedestrians when there's a plane landing or taking off. The path really is close to the runway, you can touch the concrete if the feeling takes you.
Found my way to "no-where" which consists of little more than a single house called "no-where", but at least I asked someone if this was the road to nowhere. Had a quick look around the graveyard in Oldtown, and walked down the peninsula that holds the lighthouse. The weather is still glorious and managed to see the Bishop Rock lighthouse off in the distance.
Walked into Hughtown to get something to eat and some sun screen, the place is full of day trippers. Walked back up to the B&B along the coast road.
Late in the evening popped up to the ancient village and watched the sunset over Tresco. An amazing sight.
My arms are now as red as beetroot.
