Day 2 - Sun 14 Oct 07
Down to breakfast at 09:00, the usual cereal and juice affair, then out to do the Lonely Planet walking tour. There was a huge thunderstorm last night, and a few times there was no gap between the lightning and the thunder. So I'm taking no chances and I'm bringing my rain coat!
Get some good views over to Selina, and end up at the tip of Valletta near St. Elmo's fort in the WWII museum. The only item of real note is a replica of the George Cross that was awarded to the entire island in 1943.
The whole of Valletta is constructed from limestone so it reminds me a lot of Jerusalem or even Aleppo. I headed back to the hotel to dump my coat - the weather is sunny if rather windy. I headed out with the intention of visiting a couple of museums but find that they are rather pricey and don't take credit cards. Valletta appears to lack corner shops - or maybe they are all closed on a Sunday? I had a devil of a job finding a snack for lunch.
In the afternoon I made it out to Floria, and saw the big gateway that the bus from the airport passed through. Then it was down to the port where I saw a very large cruise ship depart. I guess that's where all the tourists I've been seeing all day came from! Found where the ferry to Sicily goes from, before heading back into town to get something to eat at an open air restaurant opposite the co-cathedral.
There's been a lot of walking today!
