Day 5 - Wed 17 Oct 07
I'm still unsure what to do, should I just cancel the ferry and go by plane? If I do that I'm sure to get to Sicily. The boat tomorrow could be cancelled and then I'd be on Malta another night. I'll ring the ferry company later and see what the odds are on the ferry running.
Down to the Co-Cathedral as it opens at 09:30. The outside is rather plain, but the inside is something else. Every part of the place seems to be covered by fresco's, paintings, sculptures or statues. The effect is just jaw dropping. I manage to beat all the tour groups, so got some photos of the place with no one in them.
Then it was back to my favourite haunt, the bus station to catch the 138 out to Hagar Qum on the south coast. There are two megalithic sites close to each other. The one at the top of the hill is good, but the one at the bottom of the hill is better. Some of the carved stone is beautiful.
Back to Valletta on the bus, and the ferry company have rung and left a message at the hotel - the ferry will not run tomorrow. So that choice is out of my hands. Out again to the archaeological museum to see some of the finds from the places I've visited. The highlights have to be the 'Reclining Lady' and the 'Fat Ladies'. My ticket also gets me into the National Art Museum, so I have a look in there. The only thing that really catches my eye is a couple of Turner paintings. One is of Malta, and the other depicts a sailing ship attempting to get into harbour in a storm. How Ironic!
The rest of the evening is spent eating pizza, doing some Internet, and packing.
