Day 3 - Sun 14 Nov 04
Awake at 06:30, but tried not to get up, but eventually gave up, and hit the streets! Had breakfast at Starbucks, and took the "subway" down to Bowling Green, and got a ticket for the Statue of Liberty. Just missed the 9am boat because of the huge security line.
Got the 09:30 boat, but didn't manage to get an observatory ticket (the one that gets you into the base of the statue), took a guided tour of the museum (after another security check!). On the way out I got chatting to one of the park rangers (the statue is looked after by the National Park Service) and he let me join the queue to get into the base of the statue itself - Cool! I think the Ranger only let me because of my British accent. Seeing inside the statue is something else - but even if I could go up it, I doubt if I would, it takes one and a half hours to climb up the spiral staircase.
Got the ferry back via Ellis Island but I didn't get off. Once back on Manhattan I took the subway out to Brooklyn, and walked back over The Brooklyn Bridge, cool views, and a great bridge!
Walked down to the bottom of Broadway and turned into Wall Street, got some photos of the Exchange and went around the corner to see the Bull. I tried to get a photo of that, but it was next to impossible as there was always someone next to it, touching it! Then headed over to the east side, and Pier 17 and tried to get some photos of the Brooklyn Bridge. Then took the Subway up Union Square, and saw the Flat Iron Building.
Phew, what a day!
