Day 1 Sat 23-Aug-2003
Oslo
Up at some horrendous hour to get to Stansted by 5am! There was a long queue at the check-in desks, but somehow I managed to be the first onto the plane. Caught the bus from the airfield into the railway station in Oslo. Norway is a pretty country, the harvest is well under way here, even saw some stubble burning. Spotted a Lancia, and a few old Alfa's from the bus window.
The hotel is okay, and I seem to have got a discount somehow (540Kr) - I'm not going to buy the Oslo card, I'm unsure if I'd use it enough to make it worth while.
Headed down to the waterfront, and had a quick look around the fortress, and saw the start of an open-air classical concert. Then moved on to the National Gallery to see "The Scream", very good, but I liked the "The Morning After" a woman sprawled on a bed, with a few empty bottles near by! Rather sleepy now, so I'm going to nip back to the hotel for 40 winks. Oslo isn't the prettiest place on earth - it's based on the grid system, and there is one main drag that everyone uses (the adjacent streets are empty!).
So I'm ready for my trip to Bergen tomorrow - I'm looking forward to it.
