Day 3 Mon 25-Aug-2003
Bergen
Slept well, and was out on the streets by 9:30 - got a Bergen Card and started to do the sights! The Rosenkrantz tower can only be viewed as part of a tour (every hour on the hour), so I waited (in the end only two other people turned up!) but it was worth it - Not like the climb I had in Tallinn but, some good views back into Bergen. Took the funicular to the top of the hill, and then the cable car even higher - saw the American couple in the car going down, as I was going up! It's so high that Bergen has turned into a little dot.
All in all Bergen is a cool place, nicer than Oslo, but I think I've seen all that it has to offer - I doubt that you'd want to stay in Bergen for that long, especially with all that scenery near by.
It's 8pm now, I'm going to get something to eat, and some snacks for the train, and then I'm going to walk down to the railway station. Collected my stuff from the locker, and got on the train at 9:30 - accommodation is of a high standard. I got the lower bunk of a two berth carriage. There's a train magazine, hand basin, and a travel kit all supplied - the kit has soap, conditioner, and even a set of ear plugs!
My bunk mate is a doctor who is going into the armed services (you have to serve a couple of years in Norway).
The train was the nosiest I've ever done - I had to use the ear plugs in the end. Oh almost forgot, this train has a shower, but not like the ones on Canadian trains - but it did have a shower curtain!
Into Oslo a bit late (06:40), got my 'free' breakfast at the station. So, today it's Oslo (again). Off to the bus station to dump my bag in a locker.
