Day 13 - Wed 11 May 05, Beijing, China
Well, I survived my train trip, but someone's mobile phone kept going off *all* night, I bet it was that bloke with the bag. Got swept out of the station with the sea of humanity and started walking to the hotel. After walking three blocks I couldn't find the Hotel. What a nightmare. After a lot of walking I worked out thata) the Lonely Planet map is crapb) I hadn't walked up the main drag far enough.
Eventually I found the place at 9am after being on my feet for 2hrs. Checked in and found David writing postcards in the courtyard. Then it was just a question of waiting for Guy to turn up, which he did just after 11am!
The first job was to visit the Monkey Shrine office to collect our tickets - so we headed off on the metro (3 Yuan will get you anywhere in Beijing on the metro). Found the Office, got the tickets, and then headed across the road to a restaurant. Somehow I managed to order an entire chicken (enough to feed seven people) but we took most of it away in a doggy bag. Then it was back to the hotel to allow Guy to recover from the Jet Lag.
Back out on the streets by 6pm to get to Tiannamen Square for sunset, and to see the lowering of the flag on the square.
