Overland '05

Day 25 - Mon 23 May 05, Moscow, Russia

Up early for a shower, which was very good - it's obvious that no-one else on the train knows about it, not even the Australian tour group. The weather is good, and the sun is shining - let's hope it stays that way (unlike my last visit to Moscow!)

This journey is drawing to an end, we just had the stop at Nizhny Norvogrod (only one more before Moscow) and the view from the window has changed - there is less and less countryside, and more and more roads and concrete. In one way I'll be glad to get off the train ad re-visit Moscow, but I'll have to leave the 'safety' of the carriage and say goodbye to Will and Lucinda.

The train arrived bang on time, said our goodbyes on the platform and found our contact, a mad dash across Moscow in the rush hour in the middle of a thunderstorm then followed! Booked into the hotel with no problems, and got our visas registered. Walked down to the metro, and caught the tube down to Red Square. Re-traced some of the walk I did nine years ago - quite freaky really!

Got to see St. Basil's without the scaffolding this time, walked around Red Square, found a pizza joint, did a couple of the nicer Metro stations, and then headed back to the hotel - Phew.
