Day 27 - Wed 25 May 05, Moscow, Russia
Down for another exciting hotel breakfast, packed my bag and headed downstairs to store my bag in the hotel reception. Then out on the Metro and down to Red Square (again!) found and joined the queue to see Lenin. Quite a surreal experience really, down a series of black marble steps, with soldiers everywhere, in total silence into a big room - with a glass coffin, and inside that (tastefully lit) was the man himself.
After that it was a visit to the inside of St. Basil's, and in comparison to the outside, it was rather dark and dull.
Lunched at the Russian version of McD's, at the bottom of a huge shopping mall. Back to the hotel, collected my luggage and waited for the massive thunderstorm to clear before headed for the railway station.
Took the Metro to the station, even tho' you're not supposed to carry "big" bags on it - got there with no stress and avoided the rush hour - only 4 hours to kill before the train leaves. The waiting room is a sizable glass room, the air con is on but losing the battle with the 30c outside temperature!
On the train at last - I always think of train travel as a happy thing, but there are some people saying goodbye to loved ones, for them it's a sad thing.
