Day 14 - Thr 24 Apr 2003
Up quite late, and just slobbed around (which suited me down to the ground - I'm just re-charging my batteries) I tried to get some cash from the ATM but it rejected my card. After that Charlie and I drove down to the local park. Had a nice time just wandering around, and found some huge inflated "things" that you could bounce up and down on! But I'd just had a curry so I didn't bounce for too long!
The curry was obtained by buying a 'ticket' from a vending machine in the park, and taking it up to a building where it was cooked. Very Japanese.
Got back on base, and grabbed my bags, said goodbye to Charlie and Barry, and got on the train to Tokyo - saw my first Delta of the trip from the train window, an early 16v with the wing up!
It's weird, I felt very nervous getting on the train - I guess the last three days I haven't been in charge of my world - I haven't known exactly where I am, and how to get anywhere - I've had to be attached to either Charlie or Barry. Now I'm out there on my own again, more likely to meet people and have adventures. Especially since I have very little Yen at the moment, and nowhere to stay in Nagasaki (Yet!) This is travelling by the seat of your pants.
Right I'm on my sleeper train to Kagoshima, and I seem to be the only westerner on it. The conductor knows a little English "in context" - but that's about it. There's no restaurant car on this thing either - I should have picked up an Ekiben - oh well I'll know next time! I have my chocolate from Jasper, my shortbread, and some Oreo's from "United". But I am on this train until 1pm tomorrow - Hmmm.
Tomorrow is going to be a mad dash, find somewhere to stay, check the peace park, sleep, and get up early to catch the train to Kagoshima!
