Day 12 - Tue 13 Apr 2004
Hong Kong
The weather to day is a bit misty. Caught a ferry over to Kowloon, well what I thought was Kowloon. I ended up in Kowloon City - which is quite some way from Kowloon. Anyway, took a taxi downtown to the Peninsula. Booked in with no problems, and even got an upgrade without even asking!
The room has everything, from a doorbell to a TV in the bath. Fresh fruit and tea, a bar with Champaign, TV and DVD.
I haven't got a harbour view, but you can't have everything!
Back from having a swim and a sauna (that was hot), why would anyone want to do that! and the steam room is even worse!
Went over to Hong Kong Island to see the Bank of China tower, the view from the 43rd floor is quite spectacular. Took the cheap downstairs seats on the Star Ferry (saving 50 cents).
I'm in the lobby of the Peninsula having tea and scones for eight pounds(!), but the atmosphere is something else. It's just getting dark, and a man is wandering around the tables handing out table candles - how nice! It's the attention to detail here, they even supplied a plastic draw string bag for my wet swimming gear. But some poor so'n'so has to stand by the door and open it for customers.
Went up to the bar on the 28th floor 'Felix', nice - but a bit to 'designer' for me. The urinals in the toilet are free standing, in front of a plate glass window. A pee with a view.
Back to my room, and ordered a DVD from room service - there is no two ways about it, this is a damn fine hotel!
