Day 36 - Thr 6 May 2004
Washington DC
Checked out of the hotel and popped into work to say goodbye to everyone, then headed into DC with Emerald on the Metro. Got off at Arlington and took the tour bus to the Lincoln Memorial. Had a good look around, and took in the great views. Then walked up the Mall, past the Korean (quite spooky) and Vietnam memorials, and saw the brand new WWII memorial. Went into the Air and Space part of the Smithsonian. They have everything. Apollo XI, Spirt of St. Louis, the Bell X1, all in the first room - Wow! Got to see the Wright Flyer as well.
Walked up to the Washington Memorial, but all tickets had been sold - oh well, next time! Had a look around, and grabbed something to eat at Union Station.
Took the tourist bus back to Arlington and spent the afternoon wandering around. Saw the Kennedy Memorial, and the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier, after that walked up to see Lee's house, some great views there over Washington.
