Day 11 - Sat 14 Apr 07 - New Zealand
The one thing I missed on the flight was the little moving map, it was really irritating not being able to count down the miles to Auckland. I don't think I slept last night, or if I did it doesn't seem to have registered. We land on time, and I was one of the first off the flight. There was quite a queue at immigration, but it moved quickly. Then it was onto the environmental control queue. The New Zealanders protect their habitat from outside influences with a rod of iron. All bags are either checked or x-rayed. Got past that and then followed the signs around the corner and across the road to the domestic terminal.
I showed my Lufthansa Frequent Flyer card and asked if there was any space on the next flight to Christchurch, yes there was, and I swapped my ticket with no problems (so that's 40mins saved). I got an Aisle seat in row one! Took the transfer bus, and called Trev on the way, to let him know that I was on my way.
Got to the gate at 13:00, and the lady said I was a bit early - NZ is very laid back! I dozed for a half hour and then got ready to board. It's a 3x3 and there's no one next to me, cool. The time flew by, and we got to Christchurch on time. I spotted Trev before he spotted me. Got out of the airport car park for free - how nice! Headed up to the hill over looking Littleport, a really nice natural harbour. Then it was back into Christchurch to meet up with Michael and head out for a curry. I was dead on my feet at this point, but just about still functional. Good curry, and good to meet up with Michael again. Back to Trev's to collapse on the sofa!
