Day 3 - Fri 14 September 2007
Up early to get out of the Hotel and down to the port to buy a ticket to Corsica! Phil had to reverse the Lancia onto the ferry. The crossing was only 60 minutes and then we drove into Bonifacio to find a hotel for the night. After a bit of running around I managed to locate a room right in the centre of the old town.
After that we headed out of town and made it up to Campomoro, a little place at the end of the road in the south west of the island. We abandoned the car on the edge of the place and walked up to the Tour di Campomoro a 16th century tower. The disadvantage was we did it in the hottest part of the day, but the views from the tower were pretty good! Got an ice-cream on the way back to the car.
Drove back down to Sartene, and had a good poke around the old town which is a maze of streets and lanes, some no wider than a couple of people! Then it was back to Bonifacio, which is a very pretty walled town perched high on a peninsular heading out into the Mediterranean, and giving a perfect natural harbour.
In the evening it was out to find something to eat, and then another wander around ending up in an outside bar watching the Rugby World Cup on TV. All the other tourists here seem to be either French or Italian, I don't think I've heard any English speakers at all today. Then back to the hotel to plan tomorrows adventure!
