Day 5 - Sun 16 September 2007
Up for breakfast in the hotel which was fun, there were no spoons and no milk, we tried to get some tea but ended up with two glasses of cold milk.. after that we loaded up the car and walked around the corner to see the waterfall - no great shakes, but some nice views of the surrounding hills and countryside.
Into the car and headed out to see the Nuraghe Maiori just outside town, a small stone build ancient dwelling. Inside one of the darkened rooms I felt something and pointed the torch (supplied as part of the €2 entrance fee) up to the roof, to my surprise I caught a flying bat in the beam of light, and then spotted a few more just hanging from the roof!
The view from the top of the Nuraghe was good, with a forest of cork trees as far as the eye could see. Back into the car and headed up the Valley della Luna, and ended up in Castledoria a kind of spar place.
More driving got us to Castelsardo on the coast, great place other walled city on a hill. We drove up the hill and made it into the actual town with some very narrow lanes! Drove back down and parked the car in an official spot and then walked back in to try and find somewhere to stay. But there are no hotels in the citadel, so back down to the new town.
Managed to get a room in the Rivera which has views of the beach and the citadel. Dumped our stuff and headed back to the car and up the coast to Stintino a pretty little ex-fishing village, and then from there a little further north to the Capodel Falcone which has great views across some blue, blue water to Isola Asinara. The place is packed with sun worshipers, but you can see why it is a very beautiful place.
Back to Castelsardo and a super four course meal at a outdoor restaurant in the citadel. Perfect!
