I've always wanted to visit the 'Stans. I've always wanted to visit Tibet. So I decided to head off and see the World! I took a couple of months off work, packed my bag, booked a flight to Beijing and attempted to make it back to the UK with no more flying.
As usual I told my friends about my plans, and to my amazement one of them said that he was interested in coming along (well, at least for part of the journey) - and one of his friends said that she wanted to come along as well!! So I'd have some company for the first part of my trip.
Hmm, if it was just that easy! I had so many visas to get I started applying three months before I left. My initial route took me through Pakistan, but the political situation there got a by tricky so a flight between Delhi and Almaty was booked.
Then the weekend before I left riots erupted in Lhasa, so a new improvised route had to be thought up, and quickly!
