Day 12 - Thr 27 Mar 08
Not much to report on the train front, we had one other person in the carriage, but they didn't speak. arrived at just after 9am, exited the station with the sea of humanity. Moved next door to re-enter the station to attempt to buy a ticket. Large queues. I approached a guard and asked for tickets to Hong Kong, it soon became apparent that this was not the station we needed! Guangzhou East railway station was the departure point for HK.
We grabbed a taxi and headed off, there is a lot of pollution here, far worse than in Beijing. Anyway at Guangzhou East got a ticket to HK, through immigration customs and onto the train (which is a bit of a dilapidated affair), but the journey was just under two hours. Deposited at Hung Hom KCR station in Hong Kong. Changed the little Yuan I had into HK$ and had a McD's for lunch. Used the metro to get up to the hotel on Kowloon.
After a quick shower it was out to Hong Kong Island, and a trip up to the top of the Peak. While getting something to eat we spotted the mother and daughters we'd shared the boat trip down the River Li. A small world or what? A little shopping trip got me another Xd card for my camera and then in the evening it was a Pizza Express.
The Star Ferry took us across the harbour and then up to the Felix bar at the top of the Peninsular Hotel. Back to the hotel before midnight!
