Day 23 - Mon 7 Apr 08
Up at 05:00 to shower in our impressive room(!) and then a rickshaw to the station to pick up our train. Get there by 06:10 to find out that out train is delayed by two and a half hours. Explore the station, but that doesn't take that long. Each time I look at the information board the delay is getting longer. Three hours, three and a half hours, four, five and then six hours. Get so bored that I even eat some platform food. Not bad. A series of little fried breads with a spicy mush at the bottom of the cardboard box.
The train arrives at 12:00 and to add insult to injury they throw in a platform change, so it's a hike up and over to get to the correct platform. There's an AC carriage, so we pay the 670R upgrade. The train is very empty with only one other fare paying passenger in AC!
The journey drags and we spend most of the day sleeping. The train arrives at 18:30, and we walk out of the station and try to find the hotel. We wander around for quite some time and eventually give up and grab a taxi to our second choice hotel near the Ganges. After checking in and dumping our stuff we wander out to see what's going on. Well quite a lot - a dead body being moved around the streets and a film being made. Back to the hotel for a snack and then to bed. Travel and hanging around is hard work!
