Day 26 - Thr 10 Apr 08
No sleep last night due to the snoring git in the next bunk. Eventually gave up and moved bunks due to the noise - even with my ear plugs in place. Chatted to a couple of *very* happy German girls who laughed at everything. They tried to get off the train at 07:00, but the train didn't arrive in Agra until 08:40.
Found a hotel and got a day rate, as we just need somewhere to dump our stuff and have a shower. Headed off to the see the Taj. It's soo hot now I just sat in the shade and took in the view, Phil headed out to see more of the place. There's a bunch of American tourists wandering around with name tags on. Headed out and found the restaurant connected to the hotel that I stayed in last year (almost exactly a year ago!).
Used the Internet to check the status of our train tonight - it's only ten minutes late. A rickshaw drive over the other side of the river to get the best view of the Taj. Getting even hotter not. Back via the shop that our rickshaw driver is contracted to take us to. Bumped into Diana from the train, and she appeared to be buying the entire shop.
Showered at the hotel and then back to Agra Cant station. The train departed at 17:00. The Taj is still a beautiful building but spoilt not by the dirt, poverty or squaller that surrounds it, but by the stress of getting in to see it!
India can be beguiling & infuriating, dirty & beautiful, modern(ish) & ancient and all within ten seconds!
