Day 51 - Mon 05 May 08
Another interrupted nights sleep, up at 06:30 and have some black tea for breakfast, and then out in a taxi to Persepolis. It took about an hour to get there, with my taxi driver being very concerned that I was well enough to travel! He kept pointing out toilets on the way...
Persepolis is an interesting place and some of the stone gateways have such amazing carvings of lions etc on them. There's graffiti dating back to the 1800's. Had a good poke around then headed back to pick up my taxi. On the way bumped into the couple I'd met yesterday who had driven to India from Austria. I got to see their Mercedes Benz white van!
As I was leaving more and more tourists both local and foreign were turning up, so an early start was a good idea. A short drive gets us to Naqsh-e-rajab, a small site with 4 reliefs cut into the stone, and then another drive to Naqsh-e-rostam a much more impressive site with four massive rock tombs cut into a vertical rock face. Oh and I've worked out that dual pricing for admission prices is dead. I pay exactly the same as the locals.
It's then a drive back into Shiraz, and the rest of the day is spent kicking around town.
