Day 4 - Mon 13 Dec 2004
As I managed to achieve all I wanted to see in Cordoba yesterday, I got up early and headed straight up to the railway station, and changed my ticket to Madrid for the 8:54 train. Not the really plush train, but it runs on the same line, and only takes 15 minutes more to get there. The journey was uneventful, and after a bit of hunting around I found the tourist bureau in Atocha, and got a map and some vague directions to my hotel. Took the metro to SOL and found my hotel with no real problems - it's a stones throw from the main square.
My room has no view, but I dumped my stuff and headed out to visit the Royal Palace. I got a guided tour in English for 9 Euros, after that I walked down to Place Mayor. It was all decked out for Christmas, and there was a Christmas market taking place.
Took a wander out at 8pm and Madrid was still shopping, it must be late night opening, walked down to Calle Mayor to see the Christmas Lights - very festive!
