Day 2 - Mon 10 April 06
An early start, breakfast at the hotel and then back down to the Amtrak station to book some tickets, managed to book Philly to Charlottesville, Chicago to Dallas and Dallas to El Paso. Back to the hotel just before 10am. Then it was a walk down to the visitors centre to get a (free) ticket to Liberty Hall. Because I only needed one ticket I got the 11:45 slot, everyone else was getting 13:30!
I walked down and went through the all the normal heavy security. There's not a great deal to see at Liberty Hall, it's more what happened there, rather than the buildings themselves. After that I had a look at the Liberty Bell - it was ordered from the UK, and was broken on delivery - I'd have asked for a replacement. Then it was a stroll down to the National Park Service book store, I got a copy of the US constitution, and an Eagle Pass which gets me into all NPS sites for a year. The pass costs $50, but I'm going to be visiting a lot of NPS place, so it should save me a lot of cash!
Back to the visitors Centre to see a movie about the events surrounding the declaration of independence, after that it was the local library to do some hotel booking online! In the end I couldn't book anything as the Hotels.com site didn't like my post code - I gave up and rang them, I think I've got a good deal on a hotel in Dallas.
