Day 5 - Thr 13 April 06
Jefferson's Birthday! Up and out of the hotel at 08:00, and was collected by Enterprise at 08:45. Rental car agreement signed, and on the road by 09:10. I've got a Ford Focus with a boot, and I'm the master of my own destiny. Drove down the 250 to the Skyline drive and used the Eagle Pass the I got in Philly for the first time. The drive runs along the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains with stopping points and great vistas.
The whole place is covered with trees, which at this time of year are still rather bare, but at least that gives you the chance to see through them. I got flagged down by a guy who had slept out on the trail last night - the trouble was it rained, and he had no tent. All his gear got wet, and it doubled in weight. I drove him back to his car. It seems that only non-Americans had been the only people that had stopped for him.
Eventually got to Point of Rocks at about 16:45 after a whole day on the road. Had supper with Em, David and Tyler and then spent the evening working out what I'm going to do after El Paso, and feeding Quarters in to Em's One Armed Bandit. Bed at 23:00 - Knackered, but a good day!
