Day 9 Sat 25 Feb 2006
Not a great start to the day. I walked down to the National Museum, only to find that it is shut, at first I thought the guards were having me on, but they weren't. After that I strolled up to the Liberation Tower (the Lonely Planet says that you can't go up it, but things change).
But not that much, there is no access to the tower, but the guards were very friendly! So, it's 10:30 and I've achieved nothing. I was about to give up but then I walked past the main bus station. I managed to obtain a bus map (for 150fils), then back to the hotel to use the Internet to confirm that the aquarium is open today (twice bitten!), and it is! I find that the bus to the aquarium stops right outside the hotel. Bargain!
I only just reached the bus stop when the number 15 came around the corner and 150fils gets me to the Aquarium. I did get some strange looks from the locals on the bus. I guess most tourists use taxis? I got off the bus a few stops too early, but it did mean that I took a nice walk down the corniche to the aquarium.
The aquarium is very good, and has a display of number of land animals found in Kuwait.
Then it was "hunt the bus stop", which I eventually found - but there were many buses going the other direction, none in mine. So eventually I crossed the road and caught a bus to the end of the line (which was just around the corner from the aquarium!). There was a number 15 waiting, which got me back to the hotel with no problems!
After sun down I walked over to the souq (it's after dark that any souq comes alive) and spotted a money changer with stacks of money in a glass display case. He had every currency under the sun, Dollar, Euro, Iraqi even Chinese!
