I spent a few days in San Francisco on my second round the world trip - The highlight of the trip had to be my visit to Alcatraz island - the sight of the old prison. I caught the last boat out, and did the audio tour which is narrated by ex-inmates. It's certainly not a place that I'd like to have been locked up in - but it is a fascinating place to visit.
If you want a great view of the city, nip into the Hyatt Hotel, and take the lift to the bar on the 36th floor - buy the drink of your choice, sit back, and enjoy the view.
I also got to the top of Coit Tower, which has good views over the bay to Alcatraz.
Most of the rest of the time I spent riding on the cable cars just for the fun of it, and checking out the cable car museum, where you can see the engines and pulleys that drive the whole system.
